Our Amethyst Pieces
We have gathered together all our pieces, both for him and for her, to showcase everything with an amethyst stone, perfect for those with a February birthday or just for those who appreciate the beauty of the amethyst.
Amethyst is a stunning purple variety of quartz, known for its rich and vibrant hues, ranging from pale lavender to deep violet.
It is said that the ancient Greeks and Romans believed the amethyst would ward off drunkeness and the intoxicating power of Bacchus, the ancient Greco-Roman God of wine and festivity keeping the wearers mind clear and quick witted.
The Hebrew word for amethyst is ahlamah which literally means 'dream stone' and it was thought to induce pleasant dreams.
This has lead to the long history of the amethyst being associated with protection and mental clarity.
The South Crofty Collection
Our Story
The South Crofty Collection was launched in 1988 with just two designs - an ingot and Celtic cross - and the project was an instant success. From humble beginnings, the Collection has grown to become a leading retailer of Cornish tin jewellery and gifts. Each item is designed and crafted by hand here in Cornwall for customers across the world.
South Crofty was the last operating tin mine in Cornwall. Following its closure in 1998, some of the last reserves of ore were stockpiled especially for the South Crofty Collection. This partly processed ore continues to be smelted in batches to meet the ongoing needs of the workshop.
Sadie took over the running of the South Crofty Collection in 2020 and continues to make jewellery and gifts from her workshop in Wadebridge, Cornwall.
